PSTN and ISDN switch-off

Your phone lines stop on 31 January 2027. Move them on your date, not the network’s.

Analogue lines, ISDN and the broadband carried over them all stop working. We move your numbers to Cloud PBX, so your phones keep ringing.

The date has moved once. It is now confirmed.

Openreach first planned December 2025, then moved the switch-off back to 31 January 2027. New analogue and ISDN lines have not been sold since September 2023.

What to check

Your numbers are the easy part. Check what else is plugged in.

These usually dial out over a phone line. Ask whoever supplies each one whether it works over a digital line.

  1. Intruder alarmsYour alarm company or installer.
  2. Lift emergency phonesWhoever holds the lift maintenance contract.
  3. Care or telecare linesThe care provider or the telecare service.
  4. Door entry systemsThe installer of the entry system.
  5. Fax machinesThe supplier, or retire the fax if nobody uses it.
  6. Older card terminalsYour card payment provider.

An internet based phone service, including ours, will not work in a power cut or if your broadband is down. Always keep a mobile available for emergency calls.

How the move runs

Four steps, and your phones never go quiet.

Your current lines keep working until your numbers switch, on a date you pick.

  1. Tell us what you have

Your numbers, your users, and anything else on the lines.

  2. We quote Cloud PBX

For the users you have, on a 30 day rolling, 12 or 24 month term.

  3. Your numbers move

Landline and VoIP numbers typically take 7 to 10 working days.

  4. Calls ring on Cloud PBX

In the apps, on desk phones, or both. Then cancel what is left on the old lines.

More on moving numbers: keep your number. More on the phone system: Cloud PBX.

Questions

What businesses ask us about the switch-off.

When is the PSTN switch-off?

Openreach withdraws the PSTN and ISDN network on 31 January 2027. It stopped selling new analogue and ISDN lines in September 2023. The date was originally December 2025 and was moved back once.

What stops working?

Analogue phone lines, ISDN lines and broadband carried over them. So does equipment that dials out over those lines, such as intruder alarms, lift emergency phones, care or telecare lines, door entry systems, fax machines and older card terminals.

Can we keep our phone numbers?

Yes. We move your existing numbers to TISA. Landline and VoIP numbers typically take 7 to 10 working days, you pick the date, and your current service keeps working until the switch. Landline ports carry a one-off charge per request, shown in the price guide.

Do we need new phones?

Not necessarily. Cloud PBX runs in apps on iPhone, Android, Windows and macOS, and on standard SIP desk phones. If you want desk phones, we supply them.

Will our phones work in a power cut?

An internet based phone service, including ours, will not work during a power cut or if your broadband is down, and it may not reliably give your location to the emergency services. Always keep a mobile available for emergency calls.
